Rea Beaumont, DMA, is an internationally recognized composer-pianist, educator, and scholar. She has premiered over 100 works and her albums, often reviewed as “beautiful” (NPR), are broadcast internationally. Her innovative compositions address global issues, including climate change, and she recently completed two larged commissioned works.
Dr. Beaumont is a dedicated teacher whose students have received scholarships, won first place at festivals, and appeared as concerto soloists with professional orchestras. She is a faculty member at the University of Toronto and a frequent adjudicator for festivals and national awards, including the JUNOs.
Dr. Beaumont’s research on North American Music and on the future of music in this digital landscapae is widely published in North and South America and Europe. She is the author of a biography on Barbara Pentland and the host of Canadian music and culture podcasts. She was awarded the SOCAN Foundation/MusCan Award of Excellence for Research in Canadian Music and the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her achievements in music, art, and culture.

Rea Beaumont, DMA, is an internationally recognized composer-pianist, frequent guest lecturer, visiting artist, composer-in-residence, and artist-in-residence at leading cultural institutions. In addition to performing solo and chamber music concerts, Beaumont has released albums that are broadcast worldwide and often reviewed as “beautiful” (MPR). She has premiered 100 compositions, including commissioned works, and collaborated with many composers including R. Murray Schafer, Barbara Pentland, Richard Beaudoin, Chan Ka Nin, Jordan Nobles, Jordan Pal, and many more.
Beaumont's extensive research is published in North America, South America, and Europe. She hosts the podcasts Canadian Culture and Canada's Musical Mosaic, featuring interviews with leading Canadian artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Barenaked Ladies, Opera Atelier, etc. Beaumont's book Composer Barbara Pentland offers a comprehensive study of the composer’s life and music, and it was shortlisted for an IAWM Award. In recognition of her research and innovation, she was awarded the SOCAN Foundation / MusCan Award of Excellence for the Advancement of Research in Canadian Music.
Formerly a Faculty member at the University of British Columbia and RCM, Beaumont is a member of the piano faculty at the University of Toronto and maintains a private studio. Her students have won scholarships, placed first in many festivals, and performed with professional orchestras. She has also adjudicated festivals and award competitions, including the JUNOs.
Beaumont earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano, Master of Music, Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Hons), Artist Diploma, ARCT Diploma, and a Certificate in Entertainment Law, studying at the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, The Banff Centre, The Royal Conservatory of Music, and Osgoode Hall Law School. Beaumont's piano coaches included Anton Kuerti, Dr. Robert Silverman, Menahem Pressler, Marc Durand, and Robert G. Rogers. She also studied fortepiano with Colin Tilney. Her composition teachers included Phil Nimmons, Edward Laufer, John Hawkins, and Dr. Samuel Dolin.
To support a more inclusive arts sector, she has volunteered with multiple organizations since 2006, expanding benefit funds to support musicians with long-term illness. She is a member of the CFM, TMA, SOCAN, ACTRA RACS, and CMC. Beaumont was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her achievements in music, art, and culture.

Audiences connect with Beaumont's music that blends musical genres to highlight global and social issues, including climate change. She has premiered 100 compositions, working with many performers and composers that include Barbara Pentland, R. Murray Schafer, Oskar Morawetz, Jordan Pal, Jocelyn Morlock, and others. As a chamber musician, she has performed in duos with trumpet, flute, and violin, served as a collaborative pianist affiliated with the RCM for ten years, and performed with members of the Vancouver Symphony, Tafelmusik, and Esprit Orchestra.
Described as “a world authority” (CBC) in the field of Canadian music, Beaumont hosts the popular podcasts “Canadian Culture” and “Canada's Musical Mosaic,” interviewing Canadian guests such as Bruce Cockburn, Barbara Hannigan, Opera Atelier, Mark Surman (Mozilla Foundation) and more. As a scholar, Beaumont's research is published in North America, South America, and Europe, in French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Her book Composer Barbara Pentland offers a comprehensive study of the the mid-century modernist's life and music. It was shortlisted for an IAWM Award.
